Meet Your Psychiatrist
Dr. Kassimier Thompson received her Bachelor of Science degree in biology and a minor in chemistry from Norfolk State University. After obtaining her undergraduate education, Dr. Thompson earned her medical degree from Eastern Virginia Medical School, where she also received her postgraduate training.
Dr. Thompson specializes in General Adult Psychiatry and is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. She has over 5 years’ experience in treating Anxiety Disorders, Bipolar Disorder, Depressive Disorders, Obsessive Compulsive Disorders, Post traumatic Stress Disorder, and Psychotic Disorders. Her empathetic character and incorporation of a healthy balance of humor (a positive defense) allows her patients to feel at ease and open to express what they are experiencing.
Dr. Thompson is proficient at working with others and feels called to use her abilities to educate and empower her patients to take charge of their health (mental, physical, and spiritual). When asked what she loves most about being a mental health professional, this is what Dr. Thompson says:
“I chose to be a psychiatrist because everyone has a story, and everyone deserves to have someone who can both hear and hold their pain. I love watching the progression in individual’s lives. People usually come to see me because they are in despair and not sure where to turn to find relief. I like taking the journey with my patients to take them from a state of crisis and uncertainty and helping them achieve stability and wellness from the inside out.”
Outside of being a Psychiatrist, Dr. Thompson is also a wife and mother who enjoys biking, hiking, and camping with her family. In her spare time, Dr. Thompson also enjoys crafting and repurposing furniture– turning ‘trash’ into treasure.
